9 Home Remedies for Earache

Generally, earaches are common amongst children and occur due to an ear infection. Even anatomically, the structure of ears amongst children differs from that of adults.

 

Hot water bottle

Applying moist heat on an infected ear grants rapid relief from ache. Fill a hot water bottle with warm water, wrap it inside a towel and gently press it on the inflamed ear for a short while. It remedies the ear ache.

 

Blow dryer

The heat radiated by a blow dryer could offer relief from an earache. Instead of drying the ears with a towel after a shower / bath, using a blow dryer on ‘warm’ setting is advised. Allow the warm air generated by the dryer to dry the moisture in the ear cavity. The warmth relieves ear aches.

 

Ginger

Ginger possesses potent anti-inflammatory characteristics. Additionally, it also assists in relieving pain. These features render it effective against earaches.

Derive the juice of fresh ginger and drip a few drops of it, into the ear cavity of the aching ear. An alternate advise is infusing a combination of 1 tsp of grated ginger root & 2 tbsp of olive oil for dripping in the cavity of aching ear. Either method decreases the pain and inflammation, relieving the earache.

 

Peppermint

The peppermint plant has several acknowledged medicinal characteristics. Its leaves, as well as it oil, can treat earaches.

Extract juice of peppermint leaves and using a dropper, drip a few drops inside the infected ear. Alternatively, smear a few drops of peppermint oil, externally only, on the periphery of the infected ear. Both the methods relieve earache by reducing the pain and inflammation.

 

Basil

Basil has antibacterial / analgesic / anti-inflammatory characteristics that sooths earaches.

Derive the juice from a few crushed basil leaves and put 4-5 drops in the aching ear for a rapid relief. Repeat the exercise, as needed.

 

Neem

Neem is alternatively known as the Indian lilac. Its powerful antibacterial and antifungal characteristics guard against various infections. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities decrease earaches.

Derive the juice of a few crushed neem leaves and drip a few drops of it as eardrops in the aching ear. Alternatively, roll an earplug from some cotton and dip it in neem oil before inserting it in the ears and later discarding it. Either of the two relieves earache.

 

Garlic

Garlic has analgesic / antibiotic characteristics that decrease earaches arising due to an infection.

1 tsp of minced garlic with 2 tbsp of sesame oil, heated and strained, make an effective eardrop for aching ears. Alternatively, derive the juice from a few garlic cloves and use as eardrops for relief from earache.

 

Onion

Another home remedy for treating earaches is the humble onion. This vegetable has antiseptic / antibacterial characteristics that address the problem.

Heat over low flame, 1 tbsp of onion juice derived from grated onions and use as eardrops for relief from earache, repeating as required or 2-3 times every day. Alternatively, completely crush a fresh onion, wrap it very tightly in some clean cloth and secure it with a string before applying it over the infected ear, repeating as required or frequently every day.

 

Olive oil

Olive oil works as a lubricant and assists in eliminating the infection of the ear. This home remedy sooths earaches and may enable a rapid recovery.

Drip a few drops of warm olive oil as eardrops inside the ear. The heat it radiates, offer quick relief from earache. Alternatively, dip a cotton ear bud in warm olive oil and roll it inside the ear cavity. Olive oil might be substituted with mustard oil instead.
