Aloe Vera Gel and Juice,Sesame Oil,Ripe Bananas and Ripe Papayas as Home Remedies for Rectal Bleeding

The rectum in the human body is part of the digestive tract which includes the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines, rectum and anus.  Usually bleeding per rectum can be due to a problem in any part of the digestive tract.

Some of the causes of rectal bleeding include:

  • Constipation.
  • Hemorrhoids, otherwise called piles.
  • Anal fissures and Polyps.
  • Underlying causes like colon cancer.
  • Colitis
  • Rectal ulcer
  • Stomach and intestinal ulcers.
  • Crohn’s disease.
  • Bowel inflammation.

Sometimes rectal bleeding can happen without the patient noticing it.  Other symptoms of rectal bleeding include:

  • Anaemia.
  • Fatigue
  • Lethargy.
  • Pallor.

Often it is important to visit the doctor to get a proper diagnosis.  It is important to rule out underlying serious causes which may be responsible for rectal bleeding.  Certain blood tests, stool test,  thorough physical examination, endoscopy and colonoscopy apart from biopsy may be prescribed by the doctor depending upon the patient’s physical condition.  Certain pain killers, iron supplements, steroids and surgery may be prescribed depending upon the patient’s condition and the doctor’s prudence.

Certain proven home remedies can be tried to control and eliminate rectal bleeding where the cause is not attributed to some serious underlying physical condition.

Fibre-rich food:

  • Often, rectal bleeding can be the result of constipation where the stools get hardened and it becomes extremely difficult for the patient to pass faeces.
  • Eating fibre-rich food provides bulk to the stools and smoothens them so that their passage outside the body becomes easier.
  • Consuming foods like pumpkin, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, cabbage, carrots, cucumber etc., regularly, helps one in easy bowel movements.
  • Apart from consuming the above fibre-rich foods, foods that are hard to digest should be avoided.  These include processed red meat, spicy and oily food, fatty food etc.
  • It is important to maintain a food diary and note the foods consumed on a daily basis.  This would give an idea to the patient as to which foods are causing constipation.  It is wise to avoid such foods.
  • Consume fruits, at least three different types, every day.

Drink Water:

  • Water hydrates the entire body and one of the possible reasons for a rectal bleed may be dehydration.
  • Hence, drink at least 8 – 10 glasses of water to supplement the body with essential liquids.

Aloe vera gel and juice:

  • If the rectal bleeding is caused due to anal fissures or piles, aloe vera can serve as a good remedy.
  • Break the leaf of an aloe vera plant and apply the gel on the affected area, before bed time.
  • Aloe vera helps in healing the wounds quickly and helps in easy bowel action.
  • Aloe vera juice is a good natural laxative.  However, for consumption, make your own juice or buy from a trusted vendor, the organic variety.
  • Consult a naturopath to decide on the amount of daily dosage.

Sesame oil:

  • Again, if the rectal bleeding is caused due to fissures, applying a thin coat of sesame oil on the affected area at night time, will provide instant relief.
  • The sesame oil moisturises the area and provides relief from cuts and the painful sensation during bowel movements.

Ripe bananas and ripe papayas:

  • Consume two small ripe bananas, before going to bed, every night.  This makes the morning pleasant by clearing the stomach and assisting in smooth bowel action.
  • Consume two to three pieces of ripe papaya, first thing in the morning.  This stimulates the digestive organs and helps in ridding the stomach and intestines of accumulated toxic faecal matter.
