Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition. It is considered to be an auto-immune disorder, i.e., a condition in which the body’s healthy cells start attacking themselves. Psoriasis is marked by red, silvery, irregular, raised patches on the skin. It generally appears on the extremeties, elbows and knees apart from the scalp. It can also appear on the nails. The symptoms of nail psoriasis include:
- Thickening of the nails.
- Pitting of the nails.
- Irregular shape of the nails.
- Pale and dull, unhealthy looking nails with redness at the arch of the nails.
- Loosening and crumbling of the nail.
- Arthritis of fingers.
- Nail fungus may also be present in people with nail psoriasis.
- Skin psoriasis as most people with skin psoriasis also tend to have them on their nails.
Psoriasis is not contagious. The reason for the disease is not known. However, heredity is not ruled out – i.e., the chances of getting psoriasis are higher if one or both the parents or siblings suffer from the disease.
Tar, salicyclic acid, retinols and corticosteroids are generally prescribed as treatment for nail psoriasis. Even phototherapy is advised in severe cases.

Regular application of aloe vera gel on the affected area is believed to be very effective in treating psoriasis affecting the nail.
Bitter gourd juice:
Buy organic bitter gourd. Make a glass of bitter gourd juice by throwing away the peels and the seeds inside. Drink this juice, first thing in the morning, and do not consume anything for the next half hour.
Bitter gourd juice kills the germs and bacteria present in the body and improves the immunity levels. This in turn helps in getting rid of psoriasis.
Yogurt contains probiotics – which means that they contain good bacteria which improve the health of a person.

Consume at least two little gooseberries, daily, to cure psoriasis. Otherwise, eat at least one gooseberry along with a little manuka honey to gain good health benefits.
