Nausea and Home Remedies


Nausea is an uneasy or queasy feeling arising due to a plethora of reasons ranging from acidity, dehydration, pregnancy, morning sickness, cancer illness, chemotherapy treatment, medication dosage or motion sickness. Nausea is normally accompanied with vomiting.  The nauseous reaction can easily be fought with natural home remedies. A trip to the doctor is not required when suffering from nausea except in extreme circumstances and when nausea and the vomiting syndrome persist over a few days.

Consuming fluids is essential when affected with nausea and vomiting. This is because dehydration could occur due to severe vomiting thereby causing imbalances in the electrolyte balance. Increasing the consumption of water can boost the fluid intake. Also soups, health drinks and fruit juices can be consumed in adequate quantities at regular intervals to restore the electrolyte balance. Dairy-based products including milk are to be avoided when inflicted with nausea. The intake of soft foods can then be initiated after 24 hours of fluid intake. If the queasiness begins to appear then switch back to liquid consumption again.

Another useful tip to battling nausea is to lie still on the bed and place a wet washcloth on your forehead. Concentrate on breathing and avoid thinking about the stomach uneasiness for the duration. Continue the course for some minutes to get relief from the discomfort.

Home Remedies

When the nauseous sensation begins to creep in and the urge to vomit is strong, do not resist vomiting as it could be damaging to the body as the stomach acids are being held in the body and could cause further discomfort. The following home remedies are natural and can be tried for respite from nausea and vomiting disorder.

  • Ginger Cure

Ginger has healing properties and they can be displayed in treating the nauseous condition also. Ginger tea can be readied and downed for reprieve from nausea. Fresh ginger is needed for the tea. Peel and shred the fresh ginger. Put 1 teaspoon of the prepared ginger in a cup. Pour one cup of boiling water in the cup. Cover the cup and brew the mixture for 10 minutes. The ready ginger tea can be sipped to get rid of the uneasy sensation.

  • Peppermint Remedy

The peppermint scent can cure nausea and help one feel better. Some drops of peppermint oil can be rolled in a cotton swab and the gums can then be stroked with the cotton ball. The oil can also be applied on the hands and followed by rubbing the gums to enjoy the benefits of the peppermint aroma.

  • Lemon Treatment

Sucking on frozen or fresh lemon can also help in the nausea treatment. Knife a lemon into wedges and suck on the lemon wedge every some hours to treat the nauseous feeling. Alternatively, the lemon wedge can be kept in the freezer in a plastic bag and sucked when frozen. Lemon has many therapeutic qualities and the goodness of the lemon comes into play in combating nausea also. The lemon flavor can help one feel better when distressed with nausea.

  • Milk Toast Recipe

Consuming milk alone is not advisable when inflicted with nausea. However milk can be consumed with toast. Milk and toast are bland foods and these are preferred during nausea. Acidity in the body can be controlled with bread and milk provides the coating for the stomach. Unsalted butter can be spread on toast and toast pieces or crumbs can be added to hot milk and consumed. Milk toast is not recommended when suffering from gastroenteritis.

  • Other Remedies

Acupressure and acupuncture techniques can be read and tested to reduce the effects of nausea. Also resting under a fan and allowing the air to blow on the face helps one to feel refreshed and can be helpful in battling nausea.
