What home remedies could treat stomach flu

– Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a popular home remedy for treating an incidence of stomach flu. Apples contain pectin that aids in comforting an inflamed stomach. Additionally, the acidity of apple cider vinegar assists in eliminating viruses that result in gastroenteritis. It also aids in decreasing nausea, stomach ache and formation of gas. 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar could be added to water / fruit juice and consumed before meals, for curing stomach flu. Another option could be taking1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar & 1 tbsp of honey, for adding in 1 cup of hot water and sipped.

Peppermint

Peppermint is a carminative herb and has antispasmodic characteristics that assist in eliminating gas and bloating. Apart from these, this herb also aids in gaining comfort from stomach and intestinal cramps. Thus, it constitutes a very effective home remedy for curing a case of stomach flu. It could be consumed by taking 1 tbsp of its leaves, added to 1 cup of boiling water and steeped, prior to being sipped. An alternative would be to source it in form of capsules, available at health stores. Either of the two provides instantaneous relief from the discomfort of gastroenteritis.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has long been acknowledged for its medicinal characteristics that include being an effective antibacterial / antiviral. Additionally, the warmth it generates assists in guarding against a chill or body ache. It assists in curing stomach flu, or gastroenteritis, rather quickly. A small piece of the tubular roll of this bark could be chewed on for un-leashing its medicinal potential. Another option could be to add 1tsp of cinnamon powder to a cup of water, for boiling & brewing, before being filtered by muslin or a fine strainer and sipped.

Ginger

The medicinal value of ginger lies in its antiviral and anti-inflammatory characteristics that are employed for treating several ailments, including stomach flu. Additionally, consuming ginger also assists the digestive process and hence, guards against nausea / cramps / bloating. Ginger could be consumed raw, after peeling & crushing, with a dash of salt & lemon. Another option is to peel & slice raw ginger, for boiling & steeping and sipping the strained liquid. However, this herb should be avoided by people suffering from high blood pressure.

Garlic

The medicinal value of garlic lies in its antibacterial and antimicrobial characteristics that may be harnessed for various ailments. Consumption of garlic cloves aids in a rapid recovery from stomach flu. Additionally, it comforts the stomach lining and thereby, assists in preventing indigestion, cramps, bloating and formation of gas. Its cloves could be crushed and combined with a few drops of honey, for consumption. Alternatively, a garlic clove could be put in each cheek and gradually chewed on, though its taste might sting.

Consumption of probiotics such as yogurt or buttermilk, aids in recovery from stomach flu, by decreasing the inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract.
